Rams Show Resiliance and Depth in Strong Week of Competition

The Rockford Rams girls varsity tennis team put together a strong and competitive stretch this week, facing East Grand Rapids on Tuesday before taking on Mattawan and Forest Hills Central on Wednesday. Across all three matches, the Rams showed toughness, resilience, and a willingness to battle in every flight. vs. East Grand Rapids Tuesday’s matchup against East Grand Rapids showcased just how hard the Rams are willing to compete from top to bottom. Nearly every flight featured long rallies, tight games, and players refusing to give in. At No. 1 singles, Grace Ferry fought point-for-point in a highly competitive match, keeping both sets close with consistent play and strong court coverage. At No. 3 singles, Ella Fix showed tremendous grit, bouncing back after the first set to force a deciding super tiebreak. Her ability to reset and compete under pressure highlighted the team’s determination. Doubles play was just as competitive, with multiple matches featuring close first sets and extended games. Carlie Wegener and Sadie Debski battled in a tight opening set at No. 1 doubles, while Sienna Maag and Vanessa Rollenhagen pushed through a tiebreak at No. 2. The highlight of the match came at No. 5 doubles, where Evian Lund and Addyson Schad delivered an outstanding performance. After splitting the first two sets, the pair showed incredible composure and toughness in a back-and-forth super tiebreak, pulling out an 11-9 victory. Their communication, energy, and refusal to back down embodied the team’s overall effort against a very strong opponent. vs. Mattawan (Rockford wins 6-3) Rockford turned in a solid team performance against Mattawan, earning a 6-3 victory despite challenging windy conditions. The Rams were especially strong in singles play. Sophie Burns controlled her match at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Lilly Bajema added another point at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-4 performance. At No. 3 singles, Ella Fix delivered one of the most important wins of the match. In a tightly contested battle, Fix stayed mentally tough and came through in a second-set tiebreak to secure a 6-4, 7-6 (8) victory. In doubles, Sienna Maag and Vanessa Rollenhagen earned a strong win at No. 2, and Lund and Schad continued their impressive play with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5. vs. Forest Hills Central (Rockford wins 7-2) The Rams continued their strong play with a 7-2 team win over Forest Hills Central. Rockford swept all four singles flights with commanding performances. The highlight came at No. 1 singles, where Grace Ferry earned a huge win in a competitive match, 6-4, 7-5, showing poise in key moments. Sophie Burns and Ella Fix added decisive wins, while Lilly Bajema was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 performance. Adding to the team’s success, Lillian Russell and Leah Stoddard stepped in at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and both came away with impressive wins. Their performances added valuable depth to the lineup and showed the strength of the Rams beyond the top flights. In doubles, Kate Coyle and Evelyn Schwander were strong at No. 3, and Aubrey Rosebery and Chloe Elizondo added another win at No. 4. Lund and Schad once again capped the lineup with a solid win at No. 5 doubles, continuing their standout stretch.
