Varsity drops tough contest to Spring Lake 10-8

The Varsity Rams started the game off strong opening up a 2-0 lead on goals by Ava Wekenman and Kiah Kruisenga. Spring Lake would answer to close the gap to 2-1 with just under 5 minutes left in 1st quarter. Just 10 seconds later senior Ella Larva took control of the draw and raced down the field and scored to extend the lead to 3-1. The Lakers closed the lead to one again with 3 minutes left in the 1st. The first quarter was kind of quick paced and the Rams kept up that pace with another goal a minute later by Kruisenga to extend the lead to 4-2 to end the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was much of the same with both teams trading blows and the Rams holding on to a slight lead 6-5 at halftime after goals by Brooke Gordon and Wekenman. The Lakers defense stepped up in the 2nd half and only allowed the Rams to notch two goals while scoring 5 of their own finishing the game with a 10-8 victory. Brooke Gordon, Ava Wekenman and Kiah Kruisenga each finished the day with a 3 point day with 2 goals and an assist whie Ella Larva contributed 2 goals. Goalie Mia Mabry had an amazing game with 11 saves and a 52% save percentage.
