The road to the OK Red Conference Tournament is never easy, and for the Rockford Rams girls varsity tennis team, every match leading into the championship gauntlet served a greater purpose. The Rams knew that confidence, toughness, and battle-tested experience would be just as important as talent once conference play reached its peak. Their final stretch before the tournament provided exactly that. Rockford entered the week with challenging matchups against Spring Lake, Forest Hills Eastern, and Jenison, and while the final scores may have appeared one-sided on paper, the competition was anything but easy. The Rams defeated Spring Lake 9-0, Forest Hills Eastern 6-3, and Jenison 9-0, but every court featured intense rallies, pressure moments, and matches that forced the Rams to dig deep and compete with grit. Against Forest Hills Eastern especially, the Rams were pushed in nearly every flight. The Hawks battled point for point and forced Rockford to stay mentally sharp from start to finish. It was exactly the type of competitive environment the Rams needed heading into one of the toughest conference tournaments in the state. The matchup with Jenison carried even greater significance because of the regional seeding implications on the line. With Jenison being part of Rockford’s upcoming regional tournament, every flight mattered. One of the biggest moments of the day came at No. 2 doubles where Sienna Maag and Vanessa Rollenhagen delivered a clutch performance when their team needed it most. With a regional seed hanging in the balance, the duo rose to the occasion and secured a massive 6-4, 7-6 victory to solidify the No. 3 seed in the regional tournament. Had the Rams dropped that match, they would have fallen out of the seeding picture entirely. Instead, Maag and Rollenhagen showed poise under pressure and delivered one of the defining wins of the week. Those victories helped sharpen the Rams for what awaited them at the OK Red Conference Tournament — a conference universally respected as one of the fiercest in Michigan athletics. At Rockford, athletes understand exactly what competing in the Red means. Every match feels like a war, every opponent is battle tested, and every team wants the opportunity to take down the Rams. Rockford answered that challenge with an impressive runner-up finish, placing second overall behind the No. 4 ranked team in the state, the Holland West Ottawa Panthers. The Rams compiled 43 points in a tournament loaded with elite talent and relentless competition. Final Team Standings: Holland West Ottawa – 51 Rockford – 43 Hudsonville – 34 Grandville – 29 Grand Haven – 22 East Kentwood – 9 The Rams were represented throughout the finals and showcased tremendous depth across the lineup. Leading the charge was No. 1 singles standout Grace Ferry, who captured the OK Red Championship and earned the title of the best singles player in the conference. Ferry’s composure, shot-making, and competitive fire were on full display throughout the tournament as she battled through one of the toughest brackets in the state. Rockford finalists included: No. 3 Singles — Ella Fix No. 4 Singles — Lily Bajema No. 1 Doubles — Carlie Wegener and Sadie Debski No. 2 Doubles — Vanessa Rollenhagen and Sienna Maag No. 3 Doubles — Evian Lund and Addy Schad No. 4 Doubles — Chloe Elizondo and Aubrey Rosebery No. 5 Doubles — Kate Coyle and Evelyn Schwander Although the Rams came up just short of a conference championship, the tournament revealed something even more important about this team. Rockford showed heart. They showed resolve. They competed through adversity and found belief in pressure-filled moments. Time and time again, the Rams responded when challenged and refused to back down against some of the best competition in Michigan. Those experiences now become the foundation for the next challenge ahead , the regional tournament. If the OK Red proved anything, it is that the Rams are battle tested, prepared, and ready to fight for another championship opportunity.
