Rams Finish Runner-Up at Regionals, Punch Ticket to Division 1 State Finals

The Rockford Girls Varsity Tennis Team delivered an incredible performance at the Division 1 Region 1 Tennis Championships on Thursday, May 14th, finishing as Regional Runner-Up and qualifying for the Division 1 State Finals. Regionals is the biggest and most pressure-filled tournament of the season to date. Unlike regular season tournaments where players are guaranteed three matches regardless of results, the regional tournament is strictly survive and advance. Win and you continue. Lose and your day is over. Every point and every match matters, as teams accumulate points within each flight toward their overall team total. To qualify for the Division 1 State Finals, teams must either finish first or second overall or accumulate at least 18 total points. In one of the toughest Division 1 regionals in the state, the Rams faced a gauntlet of elite competition. The tournament included every OK Red Conference team, already one of the strongest conferences in Michigan, while also adding talented programs like Caledonia, Jenison, and Byron Center into the mix. The challenge was enormous, but the Rams responded with toughness, focus, and determination all day long. Point by point and match by match, Rockford competed with relentless energy and heart. The Rams battled through intense pressure situations and came through with one of their strongest performances of the season. In the end, Rockford finished with 21 team points, securing the Regional Runner-Up trophy and officially earning a spot at the Division 1 State Finals. The Rams also sent 4 of their 8 flights to the regional finals, an outstanding accomplishment against such elite competition. Rockford crowned one Regional Champions in doubles play: No. 2 Doubles — Sienna Maag and Vanessa Rollenhagen Several Rams also made impressive runs to the finals in their respective flights: Grace Ferry finished Regional Runner-Up at No. 1 Singles after an outstanding tournament performance. Ella Fix at 3 singles had a spectacular run to the finals, falling in a battle to West Ottawa. Lilly Bajema advanced to the finals at No. 4 Singles and finished Regional Runner-Up. Sienna Maag and Vanessa Rollenhagen captured the Regional Championship at No. 2 Doubles. The entire lineup contributed critical points throughout the day, showcasing the depth, resilience, and competitive spirit of Rockford tennis. Out of 77 Division 1 girls tennis teams statewide, only 22 qualified for the State Finals and the Rams proudly earned their place among the best teams in Michigan. The Rams are officially STATE BOUND.
