The Varsity Field Hockey team played an outstanding game and nearly came away with a win. This was a well-played game with both teams trading goals to the very end. The Rams opened the scoring first with a goal just under the 9 minute mark of the first quarter. Senior Maddie Rock sent a beautiful pass that navigated through several EGR girls and found Avery Maag right in stride and she split the defense and took the ball to goal. Maag was able to place the ball in the left corner to put the Rams up 1-0. The 2nd quarter was back and forth with neither team scoring. The Rams went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd quarter EGR was able to get the equalizer on a penalty corner that was deflected several times before reaching the goal. The Rams were not deterred and were able to take the lead 2-1 when Maag received another pass from Rock, drove right around her defender and placed a fantastic shot into the goal. The Rams would hold the lead until the Pioneers would score on a penalty corner with just 3:25 remaining. Both teams fought hard to score in the remining minutes but ended in a 2-2 tie. The Varsity Rams return to action when they travel to Spring Lake for another big conference match up.
