The varsity polo team headed to Zeeland over the weekend and showed a great strength in the 2 games. Even though we went 2-1 it was a productive weekend. The rams had a great showing from a ton of players over the 3 games. In our first game of the weekend the Rams faced the Falcons of East Kentwood. This was the first time the rams and Falcons played this season. The Rams had our backup goalie in (Sawyer Artz) and he did a fantastic job in the cage. Sawyer tallied 12 saves and had 2 assists during the game. The rams had 10 different scorers as well which is unheard of for any team. The rams pushed from start to finish and completed the game with a 16-2 victory. The second game of the tournament the rams faced the Bucs from Grand Haven. Again the rams had an exceptional showing and showed grit and determination from the start to finish. Sawyer Artz again had a great showing in the cage. He tallied 5 saves, 1 steal, and 1 assist. The rams held steadfast by winning 3/4 sprints and having 7 different scorers. The Rams finished the game with a 14-2 victory. For the final game of the weekend the rams faced a known opponent in the Eagles of Hudsonville. The rams knew this game wad going to be a physical and fast paced game. From the first whistle the rams struggled to find the back of the net and fell behind 0-3 after the first quarter. Once the rams regrouped the rams quickly found a rhythm and scored 4 goals in the 2nd quarter and made it a 4-4 game going into half. As the second half of the game started it was a back and forth scoring but the eagles held a small lead with being up 6-8 on the rams. The rams knew going into the 4th quarter they had to maintain focus and push to the end. Ultimately the rams fell to the eagles 9-10 in the final seconds of the game. Coach Peterman was pleased with the game but knew we missed many opportunities throughout the game. We give credit to the Hudsonville goalie who played outstanding and made big save after big save to keep the eagle in front. Overall from this weekend the rams learned that they need to regroup and focus on our man up possessions which was a major fault in our scoring. The rams are going into a week with 3 home dual games and then an off weekend from games. The rams face Grand Haven on Monday, East Kentwood on Wednesday and East Lansing on Thursday. All games will be played at 6:15 PM at the Rockford High school Natatorium.
