Conference dual meets are always special. Knowing that you will see them again at the end of the season, and that every point along the way counts, always makes for a fun, exciting meet. Tonight's competition between the Grandville Bulldogs and Rockford Rams was no exception. Grandville came out swinging, determined to bring it to the MHSAA Division No. 9 ranked Rams and not let them stampede on their home turf. Rockford fought back, accruing four new Varsity Letter cut times, eight new MISCA Meet qualifying times or scores, and two new State Championship Meet cut times. And in a move you don't see every day, sophomore Paelyn Wright swam her 200 Freestyle in 1:57.43, breaking the pool record for Grandville High School! It was a back-and-forth affair, with the Rams taking top honors in the first six events: 200 Freestyle (Wright), 200 Individual Medley (senior Izzy Suidinski), 50 Freestyle (sophomore Lucy Davey), Diving (senior Ava Zubrickas), 100 Butterfly (freshman Raya Arnett), and the 100 Freestyle (Wright), along with the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays. And while Grandville kept it close, Rockford was able to hold on for the 172-142 victory. Rockford Swimming & Diving go to 2-0 in dual meets and 1-0 in OK-RED Conference competition. The Rams will be at home next Thursday, October 2, to take on the Division 1 No. 8 ranked Buccaneers of Grand Haven. Meet begins at 6:00 PM.
